de Havilland DH.84 Dragon Aircraft - photo wallpapers; Megawallpapers.org : A De Havilland DH-84 Dragon, A34-9, [br]VH-URF, Construction No. 6045, of 34 [br]Squadron RAAF, was attacked while landing [br]at Wyndham airfield in Western Australia by a flight of Japanese Zeros during [br]the first enemy air raid on the town on 3 March [br]1942. The crew and passengers abandoned the Dragon which trundled along the [br]runway on fire. It stopped at the end of the runway where it burnt itself out. A [br]group of nine "Betty" bombers then bombed the Wyndham airfield leaving [br]a number of large mud holes in the runway. One of the passengers was Snow Bradshaw, a RAAF [br]Kana Operator who had been evacuated from the Darwin Intercept station [br]following the major Japanese air raids on Darwin on 19 [br]February 1942. Snow Bradshaw belonged to a special [br]intelligence group [br]attached to the RAAF involved in the interception of Japanese Naval and military [br]traffic. Another RAAF Kana [br]Operator [br]who was being evacuated from Darwin to Broome was Alf Towers. He faired [br]slightly better than Snow Bradshaw. Alf managed to depart [br]Wyndham airfield just prior to the Japanese air raid in a Lockheed 10A [br]piloted [br]by Jimmy Woods.
