Jeff Daniels (I) - biography; photo wallpapers; Megawallpapers.org: Low-key leading man whose WASPish good looks and reserved manner make him an appealing performer if not a dynamic screen presence. Educated at Central Michigan University, Daniels harbored ambitions of acting and made his way to New York, where he eventually achieved some prominence in the theater, winning a 1982 Obie Award for his oneman performance in a revival of Dalton Trumbo's "Johnny Got His Gun." Although by then he had already made his screen debut in Ragtime (1981), Daniels' theatrical success led to his being cast in a meaty role in Terms of Endearment (1983), as the philandering husband of cancer-stricken Debra Winger. Woody Allen made use of Daniels' restrained persona and clean-cut good looks by casting him as the movie star who steps out of the screen to help lonely Mia Farrow in The Purple Rose of Cairo (1985); it was a breakthrough part for Daniels (who actu- ally replaced Michael Keaton after production had begun). He followed it with a turn as a smug yuppie, a "rebel who's only channeled his rebellion into the mainstream," in 1986's Something Wild OTHER FILMS INCLUDE: 1987: Radio Days 1988: Checking Out, The House on Carroll Street (as an FBI agent during the blacklist days), Sweet Hearts Dance (as the reluctant suitor of Elizabeth Perkins); 1990: Arachnophobia (as the beleaguered homeowner), Love Hurts, Welcome Home, Roxy Carmichael 1991: The Butcher's Wife (as a comically overwrought psychiatrist); 1992: Pay Dirt, Rain Without Thunder, There Goes the Neighborhood 1993: Gettysburg 1994: Dumb and Dumber.
