This amendment adopts a new airworthiness directive (AD), applicable to [br]certain McDonnell Douglas Model DC-8 airplanes. This AD requires a [br]one-time inspection for previous repairs of the aft fuselage skin panel [br]at the longeron 28 skin splice; repetitive inspections for cracks of [br]the same area; and related investigative and corrective actions. This [br]AD also provides optional actions for extending the repetitive [br]inspection intervals. The actions specified by this AD are intended to [br]detect and correct cracks in the aft fuselage skin at the longeron 28 [br]skin splice, which could lead to loss of structural integrity of the [br]aft fuselage, resulting in rapid decompression of the airplane. This [br]action is intended to address the identified unsafe condition.
